This property was built in 1925. This is a clean, no-nonsense camp with a no-nonsense attitude: “Leave it as you found it.” The grounds are isolated, but the scenery is quite beautiful with a small stream. The Bunkhouse can be rented in two halves, each half sleeping up to 15 people (bring your own bedding and towels), and there is a kitchenette available. There is no laundry on site. Community restrooms and showers available for the bunkhouse. There’s a huge fire pit (bring your own wood). If you want to communicate with the outside world bring change for the pay phone because your cell phone won’t work and of course there is no internet. (What’s a payphone, you ask? Well it’s this ancient form of communication they used to use before cell phones.) The Bunkhouse rents for $160–$200 for each half. The Cottage is available for $120–$150 for up to four people. The Lodge has a commercial kitchen, bath, a large covered lanai with Ping-Pong table, volleyball and other games, and can sleep up to 15 people for $200–$225. Or you can rent the entire facility for $720–$880. They often rent to large groups, so be sure and call two weeks or more in advance for availability. The Cottage and Lodge often are reserved up to a year or more in advance with summer being the busiest season. They charge a cleaning fee of between $100–$500 for the facilities, but if you leave it clean, it should be returned to you. 2-night minimum. They used to have tent camping here, but have stopped it until further notice. The turn off is just past Koke‘e Lodge parking area down a dirt road. Look for the signs.

What Readers Have to Say

“I recently bought your book randomly while glancing at the travel section in a local book store… [it] ended up being our vacation bible!…We were vacationing with two other couples and they were amazed at the accuracy and specific information given on anything and everything on the island…A coworker is heading to the Big Island next week, and upon my suggestion is picking up your book for that island. Mahalo for making our valuable two weeks enjoyable, adventurous and free of disappointments. We look forward to the day that we can again visit one of your beautiful islands.”
