69-275 Waikoloa Beach Dr, Waikoloa

This resort, located directly across from the King’s Shops, went for a modern look they call “contemporary elegance.” The effect isn’t very Hawaiian—more like a 1950s retro-style with abstract patterns in colors to match the surroundings—but it’s bright, fresh, clean and comfortable.

The resort is located next to the ‘Anaeho‘omalu Fishponds and Beach on 15 acres of well-maintained grounds. Though the rooms are smallish (approx. 410 sq. ft.), they’re comfortable. The 24-hour pool has a keiki pool offshoot that’s lined with sand at one end, forming a tiny kids’ beach. The other end features a small waterslide. The saltwater pool with an infinity edge is heated. Casabella chairs (two chairs with a retractable cover) are $50, Cabanas are $100 for two people, and larger cabanas are also $100 and have a sofa and other seating and may include some amenities, but umbrellas are still free by pool. The “oceanfront” rooms are pretty far from the ocean and certainly not worth the upgrade price. If you’re willing to spend more, opt for the cabana rooms instead, which are a closer hop to the beach.

They have a $30 resort free that pays for “free” local calls, internet access, long distance calls to the mainland and interisland, some discounts, etc. Self-parking is $18 and valet is $28. Their published rack rates (below) are nearly irrelevant. They’ll almost always discount them. Rooms are $355–$480, suites (starting at 550–1,600 sq. ft.) are $600–$2,000. Cabana rooms (620 sq. ft.) are $530.

What Readers Have to Say

“We had a great time, thanks in a large part to your books. They were my bible. I was so amazed at the accuracy, eg., at one of the beaches, if you go during the week you likely have it to yourself. We walked in and that is exactly what we had. I especially love the aerial views of the accommodations. And yes, I felt better after having tears in my eyes after do the helicopter ride with Jack Harter tours, that according to the book that was to be expected. Thanks for helping us have a great first trip to Hawaii, and I look forward to more great trips by using your guides.”
