2586 Kalakaua Ave, Waikiki

This hotel is near the park and the shore, so it’s aptly named. The rooms are clean and simple but a tad small. They added smart TVs so you can connect your devices for streaming. Standard rooms have very small lanais that you can only stand on. Rooms on the pool side have great views. Rooms that open onto the pool deck are handy for people with kids (and they’re slightly larger). A few connecting rooms available. There is an area shuttle to take you all the way to Ala Moana Shopping Center (with stops along the way) included in your resort fee. Across the street from the beach.

Rooms (234–263 sq. ft.) are $335–$450, suites (298–789 sq. ft.) are $470–$2,000. Most people don’t pay those rack rates.

What Readers Have to Say

“Thanks for a great book and a great vacation! Your book guided us around Kauai for a week in March as we hiked, beached, kayaked, surfed and lu’aued… We are a family of four with two teenage boys. By the middle of the week we had all come to trust your reviews so much that no one was willing to do anything without first checking to “see what the book says.” And it was so much fun to read!.. I can’t wait to visit another island now that I have a personal guide.”
