Wonderful open, plantation-style resort adjacent to Wailua Beach with very relaxing grounds. The Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau buildings are fairly close to the ocean, allowing you to fall asleep to the sound of the surf. Grab a beverage from the poolside bar (2–9 p.m.) and sip it at the beach, or enjoy live music some nights. Relaxing thatch-covered daybeds by the pool are free. The resort was converted to a condotel (meaning the rooms are all individually owned), but décor is consistent, pleasing and well-maintained. Rooms are smallish at 311 sq. ft. and go for $319–$379. 1/1 Suites at 622 sq. ft. (with full kitchen) are $469. They have lots of specials, and few ever pay the price we listed (and we’re assuming you won’t either).

What Readers Have to Say

“I’m sure you get emails like this all the time, but I love your guidebook. When my wife and I were in our local Barnes & Noble looking through guidebooks for our trip to Kauai, yours stood out because of your writing style and humor. Your description of it being more like advice from a friend than a dry guidebook was dead on. Your use of aerial photography and arrows made it so much easier to understand where each hotel was located as well. I’m truly surprised that no one else has done that.”
