555 Kaukahi St, Wailea

This is the forgotten 15-acre Wailea resort. Most who live in South Maui have no idea that this place even exists. Instead of an oceanfront location, they’re up the hill, affording sweeping ocean views. Molokini and Kaho‘olawe look incredible from up here, and most rooms take advantage of these views. They are transitioning to be an adult-oriented resort, so there’s no keiki pool here, and, in fact, no one under 16 is allowed at the pool. There are many fitness classes available on site, even aerial silk yoga classes. Their fitness room certainly has one of the grandest views we’ve ever seen (it might even inspire you to work out longer). They have a free shuttle to take you around Wailea and to the beach where an employee will supply you with a chair, towels, umbrella and water. They also rent snorkel gear, SUPs, boogie boards and kayaks at the beach. They share the Grand Wailea’s beach, and you have signing privileges at the spa and restaurants there, too.

The rooms, which are all suites, are spacious, stunning, and all have kitchenettes (full kitchens to a few rooms). The baths are large and combine the deep tub and shower into one efficient open space. If you have a late arrival, the staff can arrange snacks for you in your room.

The grounds are very quiet, serene and rarely crowded, even if the resort is full. The pool has nice permanent cabanas, some with day beds and others with sofas, that are free for guests. We have been to this resort at many times of the year and rarely find it crowded. That’s great if you want to get away from everyone. The man-made waterfall on the property is really all you ever hear. There’s a picturesque treehouse where you may arrange a private 7-course dinner with distant, sweeping ocean views for up to six people at $600 per person, with an additional $75 for wine pairing.

There are some steps leading to almost all suites. They only allow two people per room. Suites (720 sq. ft.) are $499–$1,999.

What Readers Have to Say

“I just wanted to write and say thank you so much! Your guidebook really made my trip to Oahu in May amazing. My brother had used your Maui Revealed Guide last year when he visited Maui and highly recommended we get the Oahu Revealed one for our trip this year. I purchased the book off Amazon a few months before our vacation and started pouring into the Hotels section of the guide. I used that along side your website to pick a decently priced hotel in a good location. Then I skimmed through some of the book to pick one or two activities we should try when we actually got there. It wasn’t until I arrived to Oahu that I started using the book for pretty much everything. We jumped into our rental car the next day and headed from Waikiki to Turtle Beach. Number one thing for me was to see/swim with a turtle 🙂 We used the book the entire way there and the rest of the trip (with a tiny bit of help from our phone’s GPS too). We pretty much explored the entire island in a week (we stayed 6 nights and 7 days). I put a post it note for every site we saw and every restaurant or place we visited. The next island I go to, you better believe I’m buying another one of your guides. I’ve also recommended this to all of my friends. Thank you again for making a great guidebook!”
