There are older townhouses and newer condos. Huge variation in rooms here, even among the condos. Buildings 1–5 have outstanding units with incredible locations. On the other hand, some of the buildings have tacky rooms. The townhouse units are older, but many have been upgraded. Some may be more weathered and get a bit buggy. Townhouses numbered 1–5 and 170–199 are on the lava coastline with commanding views. Those numbered 1–13 have access to a lightly used, grey sand beach with ancient petroglyphs and refurbished heiau, where turtles commonly rest along the shoreline. A note on the oceanfront townhomes—their lanais are pulled up against the building during high surf, closing off all the windows on the first floor and making them feel very dark and cave-like. The swimming pool is larger than most condo pools. There are several interesting archaeological sites on the grounds. Tennis is a big deal here, and they have a tennis pro on site. End units (not in the townhouses) have wonderful wraparound lanais. 1/1 units (700 sq. ft.) are $95–$150, 2/2 units (1,175 sq. ft.) are $150–$225, 3/2 units (1,300 sq. ft.) are $125–$200. 3-night minimum. Kona Coast Vacations also has units here.

What Readers Have to Say

“I wanted to say a great big huge “Thank you” for printing your “Revealed” series of holiday guidebooks for the Hawaiian Islands. My husband and I recently visited Kauai, the Big Island and Maui and while on Kauai had Hell’s Own job trying to find anything. We landed at Lihue after dark… We had never been to Kauai before and didn’t really know our way around, and the guidebook we picked up at the Thrifty office was (as we here in Australia say) as useless as tits on a bull. The maps were pathetic and we got lost three times before we were pointed in the right direction. It wasn’t until we visited the Wal-Mart in Lihue on Tuesday evening and I discovered your books that we were able to finally enjoy ourselves and find the places that we had been reading about. We bought the books for the islands we were visiting and were totally thrilled at the information contained, the light-hearted way the books were written and the little “surprises” that we also were able to see by going “slightly off the beaten track” as you guys had done… When we come back we will get the other ones you have printed and right from the first day we know we will be guaranteed a great time. Once again, thanks for taking the time to put these books together.”
