We just like the feel of this place on every visit. It’s relaxing, laid back and not too big. This resort has been through many management changes, but its latest is one of the better ones. The resort is currently renovating most of the rooms, lobby and common areas. The new room decor (now called “Deluxe”) is modern and makes the space feel much larger than its 320 sq. ft. They have left some rooms unrenovated, but those are still very well-maintained and can be had for a better rate. The lanai are small here, just barely room for chairs. If you opt for ocean view, ask for one of the ocean-facing end units in Bldg. 4. Otherwise, spring for a pool view, most of which can catch a view of the ocean. Adjoining rooms available.

This resort, located between Lihu‘e and Wailua, is near a pretty but relatively unswimmable beach. (A short walk farther north leads to better parts of Nukoli‘i Beach.) The saline pools are the star here. They’ve augmented their other 3 pools with a wonderful half-sand-lined pool and a water slide complete with man-made waterfalls. They have added more umbrellas around the pool for extra shade. (If it gets too hot, head over to their shave ice/ice cream stand—a sweet touch! Stick with the keiki size.) Service has improved markedly, to the point that it competes with higher-end resorts (but you may need to head over to the pool bar for a drink since there’s no poolside service), and they keep things very clean. The staff is very warm here. They charge a mandatory $22 per day “amenity” fee, which includes internet, valet or self-parking, local calls, room safe, fitness room, weekly manager’s cocktail party and some other items. Lots of daily activities here.

Rack Rates are high at $338–$498, but few pay them. Suites (655–1,253 sq. ft.) are $600–$1,300. Many good discounts and packages are available.

What Readers Have to Say

“I generally go to the bookstore & spend at least an hour rummaging through 5 or 6 books, see where they agree, see where they differ, and decide which one to buy. I had been through at least six, none of which had any personality, all of which sounded like fluffy promo crap, and then I found yours. I read about 5 pages, fell in love with it, took it to the check out counter & bought it. I went through it front to back, at least twice, & planned the trip. Thanks to your book, I had the best time I’ve ever had on vacation. The specifics in the directions you give are GREAT. Trying to drive & find things in an odd environment can be tough, but you guys made it easy. I found a huge and awesome, (and totally uncrowded) black sand beach on the road to Hana, and other things I would never have known about… Your books make planning & having a good vacation SO much easier. Trust me, I perused a number of books for this trip, looked all over Trip Advisor, and planned like crazy. I’d rather do it all with your book. Trip Advisor can tell you some good stuff, but you don’t know where the reviewer is “coming from”, or if it was a planted review. I can ususally spot those, but sifting through all the crap to get good info is incredibly time consuming. Now, I find out you have an app!! WOOHOO!!”
